The Green Purchasing Network (GPN) and other related parties over the world launched the International Green Purchasing Network (IGPN) on April 25, 2005 to be chaired by Ryoichi Yamamoto, professor of the University of Tokyo. The 2nd International Green Purchasing Conference follows a first event in Sendai, Japan in October 2004. The aim is to bring together purchasers and producers from all levels of governments and from private companies to discuss joint strategies to foster green purchasing on an international scale. After the success of the 1st International Green Purchasing Conference, the International Green Purchasing Network, based in Tokyo, Japan, was created.
